Hey there, Bootsie! I'm Mary Etta's college roommate from years past ;)
She told me to reach out to you for canning suggestions as I am endeavoring to give it a go. My grandmother canned but that has been the limit of my exposure - and even with that it was never really watching her do it. Just eating the wonders.
I suppose my first question is very basic - what would you suggest I can as a newbie? I figure if I'm successful it will keep me motivated. Also, do you know of a website that offers easy to follow recipes? And lastly, any guidance or recommendations in general before I begin?
I was all geared up to get this started last week when we were faced and forced to do a bath/shower remodel job. I'd like to begin some canning after we climb this little hill.

First on Facebook join the group "Preserving the harvest by the book" This is a great group. There is someone close by almost all of the time who can get you out of trouble but I doubt you will ever be in trouble. Bren is great and so are all of the members, a number of folks who have taken the canning course and are master preservers. They know their stuff.

With these tools in your belt, you are on your way. You can check with me on the Happy Hallow Facebook page, I am out there several times a day.
I will be happy to chat with you and encourage you to keep going, I have started doing my own chicken broths and canning soups. Love doing the soups and I think Mary Etta was a little interested in canning soups.
Please stay in touch, I will be glad to help you anyway I can. You can even come down and we will can something to get you started if you need help (which I am sure you will not with all of the things you do)
