Letting Nature Tell You When to Plant

Phenology is a science.  Learning how to use this science is a challenge for me.  I am trying because our seasons are changing.  I want to learn to plant my garden by listening and watching what is happening in nature.  You can check many web sites.  I am going to share a little of what I am learning with you.  I am open to suggestions, please share your knowledge with me.

Plant Peas when the forsythia and daffodils bloom

Plant Potatoes when the first dandelion blooms

Plant beets, carrots, cole crops, lettuce and spinach when the lilac is in first leaf

Plant corn when the leaves of the oak tree are the size of a squirrel's ear

Plant beans, cucumbers and squash when lilac is in full bloom

2013

Plant turnips starting July 25th
